Dabbing is when the dancer raises their hand into
their face, then drops their face into the elbow
of that arm while lifting up their other arm up in
the air. Some have described it as taking a
sneeze in ones elbow.
Contrary to what you think, the YBNL lads did not
create dabbing, the new fad originated from the
American hip-hop community in Atlanta. What
Olamide and DJ Enimoney did do was create
awareness of this move and incorporate it into
Nigerian music.
Nigerian artists and celebrities like Ice Prince ,
Ketchup and MTV Base VJ Ehiz have shared
pictures of themselves doing the dance.
In recent times, international sportsmen and women have
adopted this move as their celebratory
dance. In October 2015, U.S basketball player
Lebron James busted a move during a pre-season
game. Just last week, Manchester United player
Jesse Lingard dabbed after scoring against New
castle. Only time will tell if our African sportsmen
will incorporate this into their celebration dance.
Dabbing maybe last year to some and not strong
enough to overshadow the 'shoki' or 'bobo' dance,
but it’s definitely the new craze sweeping the Nigerian Internet.
